As our drive was uneventful it allowed for some good family talk time and we took advantage of our captured audience status (read: locked in a moving car with each other for an hour) and discussed our plans for a family vacation this year. The hour flew by and before we knew it we were right in front of the restaurant, very easy to locate. Now for our humble observations...first up is Kid POV...
Hi,the place was O.K..Not really a kid place. The food was OK.....but most of it was not kid like. They however do have a kids menu. The buffet did not have much kid food. They did give you bread that tastes great.:( Kid POV...
I have traveled a bit and have tried Indian food in many cities. Shalamar Tandoor ranks up their with the best! First, were greeted by a welcoming staff. The decor inside was nice. They have two dining rooms and a bar. All clean and making us feel like we traveled to India for a couple hours. Our very cordial waitress recommended the buffet as the best deal for the amount and variety of food offered. It didn't let me down. Wow! It was like a festival of flavors and spices in my mouth! Everything from the bread to the vegetarian/non-vegetarian dishes was great. I felt like I got an even deal for all the food I consumed and how I was treated. Also, on a side note, I always check out the restrooms and the kitchen if I can catch a glimpse. I feel that if these places are kept clean, that they are representative on how the owners/managers feel about their food and their business. They passed the Dad test. Great job Shalamar Tandoor, you won the Dad over! Dad gives you two thumbs up! Dad POV...
From a Mom point of view, we knew we were taking a chance with the ethnicity of the restaurant where our Kid was concerned. As we encourage trying all kinds of food and exposure to cultures other than our own we also let Kid form opinions with open and gentle guidance. So when we arrived and decided to take a look at the buffet offerings I knew immediately to ask for a kid menu with traditional kid friendly food. So to start, the kid menu was traditional and did not disappoint and was quite satisfying for lunch.
Dad and Mom went immediately for the buffet at the recommendation of the server (who was by the way attentive and polite and was full of information when asked a question) and after we ordered our drinks we went up to begin our Indian cuisine adventure. The choices were amazing, the smells mouth watering as we wandered our way along the hot buffet tables. Wonderful vegetable dishes, curries, traditional tandoor grilled chicken, mild, medium and hot, too many choices for one trip up. The flavors were delectable and the spice just right. The curried chicken was amazing and tender, the sauce cooked to perfection. This was probably my favorite although if you ask me tomorrow it could be one of the other incredible dishes. Put all this flavor with the most incredible baked to order Naan flat bread and it no wonder you walk out of there in a food coma!!! This Mom gives Shalimar Tandoor Grill 2 thumbs up!!!
